Toyota Highlander - all-wheel drive crossover with a three-row layout of the cabin. The fourth generation (XU70) was introduced in April 2019 at the New York Auto Show.

Design changes can be called evolutionary, as the model has retained its characteristic profile and proportions. At the same time, each element is redrawn in the new corporate style of Toyota, which is especially noticeable in the rear lights, which, like on the Camry, strongly cut into the sides of the stern. And this is not surprising, because the new Highlander is built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA-K) platform, variants of which are also used in the Toyota Camry XV70, Toyota RAV4 XA50, Toyota Avalon XX50 and other models of the Japanese auto giant. The body is stiffer, the noise isolation is better, the steering is sharper and more responsive, and the maximum size of standard wheels has been increased from 19 to 20 inches.

In the fourth iteration, Toyota Highlander has grown in length by 76 mm - up to 4966 mm in cars that are sold in Ukraine (the length of the American version is 4950 mm). The wheelbase, compared to the model of the outgoing generation, has grown by 60 mm (up to 2850 mm), thanks to which the third row has been redrawn for three passengers, and the total number of seats has been increased to eight. However, crossovers come to us with seven-seater saloons. 

In Ukraine, the new Toyota Highlander is available with a 2GR-FKS gasoline engine - a 3.5-liter V6 with a D-4S system that combines direct and distributed fuel injection. The maximum power of the power unit is 249 hp, and the torque is 356 Nm. It is combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and if in America the base cars are front-wheel drive, then modifications with all-wheel drive were immediately brought to us, and the Dynamic Torque Vectoring AWD transmission is offered in the Premium package, which, if necessary, automatically distributes torque between the rear wheels with using special electrical couplings. This system improves safety while driving and also helps you navigate difficult sections of the road smoothly. Dynamic Torque Vectoring is controlled by an electronic control system and, if necessary, connects the rear axle, which ensures an optimal ratio of torque both on the axles and on the individual wheel.

In some other markets, not only gasoline, but also hybrid versions of the Highlander are sold. The power unit in such crossovers consists of a four-cylinder aspirated 2.5 and two electric motors. Peak output reaches 243 hp, and passport fuel consumption is promised at about 7 l / 100 km. By default, the hybrid is front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is also offered with a separate electric motor on the rear axle, which has become more powerful. The compact traction battery is located under the rear seats.

In the network of official Toyota dealers in Ukraine, the fourth generation Toyota Highlander is available in Elegance and Premium trim levels. Premium features include a panoramic sunroof with electric sliding sunroof, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a head-up HUD to display vital vehicle information and travel details on the windshield. In addition, the model is equipped with Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) - a 360 ° surround view system with front, rear and two side cameras. It displays on the monitor information about obstacles invisible from the driver's seat. This allows you to significantly reduce the risk of accidents when parking in the city. On board multimedia system with 8-inch display, as well as support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The JBL audio system with 11 speakers is responsible for the “music” on the top-end configuration.
